  • Dutton’s satisfaction rating has sharply dropped since February, marking his lowest net satisfaction score in YouGov’s Public Data polls to date
  • Anthony Albanese has increased his lead as preferred Prime Minister over Dutton, now at 45%-38%

YouGov’s latest Public Data poll has uncovered significant shifts in voter sentiment ahead of the next federal election. The poll shows that Peter Dutton has recorded his worst-ever net satisfaction rating of -15, down from -2 in February.

Labor and Coalition primary votes have seen a decline since the March 21st Public Data poll with Labor's primary vote standing at 30% (-1) and the Coalition’s at 35% (-2). The Greens hold steady at 13%, One Nation remains at 7%, and other parties remain unchanged at 3%. Meanwhile, Independents have risen to 10% (+2), and Trumpets of Patriots have gained to 2% (+1).

Labor takes a 2% lead over the Coalition with a 51% to 49% split in the two-party preferred vote.

Paul Smith, Director of Public Data at YouGov, commented, “Peter Dutton’s personal satisfaction ratings have plummeted to their lowest level, following his embrace of controversial Trump-style policies such as banning work-from-home arrangements and proposing to sack 40,000 public sector workers. These actions have clearly impacted his public perception, contributing to a significant drop in satisfaction.”

Net Satisfaction Ratings

Both party leaders remain in negative territory regarding net satisfaction. However, for the first time since June 2024, Peter Dutton is rated more negatively than Anthony Albanese:

  • Anthony Albanese currently has a net satisfaction rating of -6 (44% satisfied, 50% dissatisfied).
  • Peter Dutton holds a net satisfaction rating of -15, lowest ever in the YouGov Public Data Poll (38% satisfied, 53% dissatisfied).

Preferred Prime Minister:

Albanese continues to hold a lead as the preferred Prime Minister, with 45% backing him compared to 38% for Dutton.
