  • An emerging trend shows improving satisfaction with Anthony Albanese and declining satisfaction for Peter Dutton
  • 69% of Australians support President Zelensky in his disagreement with President Trump, while 31% support Trump

YouGov’s latest Public Data poll between March 7 and 13 reveals that Labor consolidates a 51% to 49% lead over the Coalition, having taken the lead for the first time in 8 months last week.

Labor and Coalition primary votes are unchanged with Labor's primary vote standing at 31%, while the Coalition is at 36%. The only changes since last week were among other parties such as Greens at 13.5% (+0.5), One Nation at 7.5% (+0.5) and Independents at 9% (-1). Trumpets of Patriots holds 1% and other parties remain at 2%.

Paul Smith, YouGov Director of Public Data commented, “Anthony Albanese’s personal satisfaction levels have notably improved, particularly as Australians overwhelmingly back his commitment to stand with Ukraine. Overseas leaders who’ve opposed Trump’s policies have seen improvements in their polling results, and Trump’s recent 25% tariff decision presents an opportunity for Albanese to further improve his leadership standing.”

Voter Satisfaction:

Both party leaders remain in negative net satisfaction territory, though they are now tied for the first time since March 2024:

  • Prime Minister Albanese: Net satisfaction of -6 (43% satisfied, 49% dissatisfied)
  • Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton: Net satisfaction of -6 (42% satisfied, 48% dissatisfied)

Albanese has halved his net dissatisfaction score from -12 to -6 in two weeks, while Dutton's dissatisfaction has increased by 4%, from -2 to -6.

Albanese continues to hold a lead as the preferred Prime Minister, with 45% backing him compared to 39% for Dutton, maintaining the same result as last week.

Support for Zelensky vs. Trump:

Australians overwhelmingly support President Zelensky (69%) over President Trump (31%) in their disagreement at the White House.

Support for Zelensky is strongest among Australians aged 65 and over (80%), and the majority of voters from Labor (80%), Greens (71%), and Coalition (64%) also support him. Only 2022 One Nation voters prefer Trump, with 57% supporting him over 43% for Zelensky.

The survey was conducted between March 7th and March 13th, 2025, with a sample of 1,526 Australians. YouGov will continue to publish weekly tracking polls leading up to the next election. For additional insights on the Australian Federal election, please visit the YouGov website.
