Australians overwhelmingly support legislation to legalise euthanasia, while almost half of those surveyed think the National Broadband Network (NBN) is bad value, according to the two-party preferred YouGov-Fifty Acres poll.
- Nearly seven in 10 (69%) support legislation to legalise euthanasia, while just one in 10 (10%) oppose it. While Coalition voters are most likely to oppose such a policy, 67% still say they support it, and just 15% oppose it.
- 47% of those surveyed think the NBN is bad value, while just under a quarter (23%) think it’s good value. A further quarter (24%) say it’s neither good nor bad value.
The poll also found the majority of Australians don’t think the government is serious about reducing emissions.
- 58% of those surveyed, and over four in 10 (42%) Coalition voters believe the government is not serious about emissions, while 32% of Australians and 47% of Coalition voters think the government is serious.
- Most Australians also think sexual harassment in a widespread problem in the workplace - over six in 10 (64%) think sexual harassment is widespread in Australian workplaces. Just 27% think it’s not widespread.
- Women are far more likely to think sexual harassment is widespread, with over seven in 10 (71%) saying it is, compared to 57% of men.
- The gender pay gap is also seen as an issue in Australia, with 50% of men and 66% of women saying it is a very or fairly large problem - 58% of the overall population. Just over four in 10 (42%) men say it is not a very large problem or not a problem at all, compared to 24% of women - 33% of the overall population.
The two-party preference steady, with the Coalition leading
- The Coalition is leading on 51%, while Labor is on 49%.
- The primary voting intention has Labor on 33% (up one), the Coalition on 36 (up two), the Greens on 10% (down one), and One Nation on 9% (down two). Other parties are on 12% combined.

Methodology Overview
All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov. Total sample size was 1009 adults aged 18+ years. Fieldwork was undertaken between 26th October- 30th October 2017. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all Australian adults (aged 18+). The survey was carried out online.
This is the latest poll from YouGov, which has a proven record of accuracy in both US and UK politics. In the most recent UK election they were the first polling agency to correctly call the result, showing the country was heading for a hung parliament despite most other organisations showing a large lead for the Conservatives. All polling is subject to a margin of error so it is natural to see some variations from poll to poll.
